本文是一篇關於”第21屆ICDE遠程教育國際會議”的評述。作為本刊專家，瘦編輯部委託，通過評述方式向讀者全面介紹了本次會議的情況。本評述包括五個部分：第一、會議的概述。其中包括會議的地點、主辦單位、主題、主要內容、論文的徵集、參會人員情況等；第二、主題報告的重點內容。其中包括聯合國教科文組織助理總幹事約翰˙丹尼爾、中國科協副主席書鈺、英國開放大學校長布倫達˙葛麗、加拿大英哥倫比亞大學教授扥尼˙貝茨等人的演講；第三、專題核心觀點：未來大學會消亡嗎？第四、現代遠程教育實踐的創新；第五、總結部分。作者希冀本文能幫助讀者全面瞭解會議之內容和精神，及國際遠程教育領域學者的最新研究成果，吸收會議產生的有價值的理念、觀點和方法，進而改善中國現代遠程教育的實踐。

This paper is a summary report on 21st ICDE World Conference on Open Learning and Distance Education， which is written by a conventioneer with comments for the academic magazine “Open Education Research”. Three are five sections in the paper. The first section is general information on the place， the host， the topic， contents， papers， and conventioneers. The second section is about keynote speeches， which were made by Assistant Director-General for Education UNESCO: John Daniel， Vice president of China Association for Science and Technology: Wei Yu， Vice Chancellor of the UKOU: Brenda Gourley， and director of Distance Education & Technology in University of British Columbia: Tony Bates. The third section is about the main innovations and trends on open learning & distance education through the conferences. The last section is a conclusion. The author expects the paper will give readers with comprehensive information and new innovations made in the world so that they can improve practice with the new philosophy and methodologies.
