英文摘要 | There were two modes of reading in the Great Books Education started from the early 20th century: the modern mode raised by the Perennialism, centering the critical and mass reading; the conservative mode raised by the Neo-conservatism, focusing on original and elite reading. The debate about the two modes indicates the core contradiction between tradition and moderness in cultural history. The understanding of the historical debate will benefit the Great Books Reading in China. The author also probes into the transformation of Chinese traditional culture into education and its problems. |
