The Application of Mixed Methodology in Educational Research

一、从单一方法到混合方法。方法论(methodology)在教育研究领域里可以有不同层次的含义，它既可以被狭义地理解为收集数据、处理数据的具体方法，也可以被广义地理解为具体方法、技术背后的逻辑或假设(Paris＆Reynolds， 1983)。这些基本的逻辑或假设又包含决定一个研究的起点、本质、方法的范式及其背后所持的哲学基础如本体论、认识论观点(Guba， 1990)。

Mixed methodology has been increasingly applied to social science research recently， although the debate from the two camps of qualitative and quantitative methodologists on the differences of the underlining procedures/techniques is still strong. The paper focuses on analyzing the developmental process of various paradigms， revealing the nature and characteristics of mixed methodology and subsequently classifying the variables of strategies for mixing qualitative and quantitative methods within one research study as well as appropriate data analysis techniques.
