本論文除了闡明一個孩子自哺乳期便開始自學，還說明在學得母語（即語言習得）的過程當中，自學能力得以獲得發展。自我學習不但能夠幫助自身文化的吸收，亦可幫助建構心智。透過自我學習，頭腦發展的潛能是無限的。在小學教育中，孩子能夠學習讀寫自身的母語或方言是很重要的，如此一來，他願意讓自己變得更好的想望便不會被澆熄。瞭解自己的潛能，便是自學動機的來源。自學經由主動學習的過程，促進個體的成長︰選擇工作、事前準備、實際執行、評估成果，最後收成從事工作當中所得到的益處。中文，母語的一種，教給小學學生的方式卻像是在學習外來語言；此舉會讓孩子在進入教育機構前所學習到的自學技能消失殆盡。

This paper clarifies how a child begins to self-learn during breastfeeding and selflearning is developed during the process of acquiring one’s mother tongue, language acquisition. Self-learning facilitates the absorption of one’s culture as well as builds the mind. Through self-learning the mind’s potential is unlimited. In elementary education, it is important that a child is able to learn to read and write his mother tongue or dialect so that his desire to improve himself is not extinguished. Realizing one’s potential is the motivation of self-learning. Self-learning furthers the individual through an active learning process: choosing one’s work, preparing for the work, doing the work, evaluating the work done and then receiving the benefit of doing the work. Mandarin, a mother tongue, is being taught to elementary students like a foreign language causing the self-learning skills which a child has learned before he entered educational institutions to disappear.
