Citizenship education emerged in the last decade as an apparent consensual goal in the public and political discourse about basic education in Portugal as well as in other European countries The fact that the Curricular Reorganisation currently Implemented in Portugal stresses the relevance of the school as a focus of both citizenship and citizenship education and as the common mission of all teachers might help the development of this emancipatory and action-oriented perspective The rational analysis on the reform of Portugal citizenship education from the perspective of Its curricular evolutions in basic education will help us understand the vision of Portugal civic education.
