Domain Specificity in Chinese Primary and Secondary School Students’ Moral Judgment Development
Based on the Social Domain Theory， this study investigated 49405 primary and secondary school students to explore the development of children’s moral development. The research results showed that: 1) In the social conventional domain， the judgments of the students from grade 3 to grade 12 kept stable with the growth of their grades; 2) Students’ judgments of personal issues tended to be less consistent with the mainstream social expectations; 3) Students’ moral judgment exhibited a U-shape pattern with age and the students in grade 6-7 were at the lowest level. In terms of the results， we recommended that moral education should pay attention to the periodic and domain-specific characteristics of children’s moral development. We also suggested that moral educators instruct students to learn to discriminate the nature of the moral， conventional， and personal issues.
