“以学校发展教育，以教育复兴祖国”———李登辉在复旦大学的实用主义教育思想与实践

LI Deng-hui's Pragmatic Thoughts and Practice in Fudan University: To Develop the Education by School and to Revive the Country by Education

Less attention has been paid to LI Deng-hui in the academy for a long time. The thesis suggests that LI Deng-hui was one of the key founders in the history of Fudan University. During the more than twenty years of his presidency in Fudan University， LI Deng -hui insisted on the pragmatic way on the belief that to develop the education by school and to revive the country by education. Li established practical courses to develop students' independent thinking and practical work skills. Moreover， he shaped the Fudan Spirit of “Unity， Service and Sacrifice”. Li led Fudan to endure the hard times of the earliest period of the University and laid a solid foundation for Fudan to become a famous research university in the future. An evaluation of the historical contributions of LI Deng-hui may shed some light on the development of contemporary universities， especially the private ones.
