Globalization and the Transformation of Chinese Universities

Chinese universities have been under great changes since the Millennium， which makes a full-sense of institutional transformation in the context that China is integrating into the trend of globalization. The nature of such institutional transformation， as the author argued， is to construct a new rational system centered on academic performance and marketization， on the condition that the political nature of Chinese universities remains unchanged. However， neither marketization nor emphasis on academic performance would provide full -sense legitimacy to Chinese universities. That is because apart from its productiveness institution also maintains values， which used to be called institutions^ educative function in the long history of China. Since Chinese universities are on the cross -road of globalization， it^s time to look into the nurturing of academic values and cultivation of academic norms， so that Chinese universities would contribute to human knowledge as an independent and enriching part.
