英漢詞典例證翻譯的基本原則

A Basic Principle for Example Translation in Compiling English-Chinese Dictionaries

本文提出詞目對應詞在例證譯文中再現，是例證翻譯的基本原則。為此，本文從詞典例證功能、對應詞的焦點地位、詞條篇章連貫和詞典使用者的使用效果等方面論證了這個觀點。為了闡述該原則在詞典例證翻譯中所具有的特殊指導作用，本文不僅從翻譯目的、翻譯結果和翻譯過程等方面對普通翻譯和詞典翻譯進行區分，同時還提出詞目翻譯和例證翻譯之間具有不可分割的關係。

This paper formulates a basic principle for example translation in compilingEnglish-Chinese dictionaries: The target equivalents of each word entry shouldbe replicated in its example translations whenever possible, leaving other partsof the example to be translated flexibly. This principle has been accounted forwith respect to the functions of examples, the focal status of equivalents, thetextual coherence of each entry text and the responsive effects from dictionaryusers. In order to further illustrate the importance of this principle, this papernot only distinguishes translation activities in dictionary compilation from otheractivities for other purposes from the perspectives of translation purpose,translation product and transla, and does this tion process. But it also points outthat an entry translation and the example translation under the entry should becoherent and consistent.
