“Things Are Increased by Being Diminished^ ” Another Discourse on the Cultural Capitals of Underclass

According to cultural reproduction theories， working-class kids cannot get high academic achievement because they lack cultural capitals. There is an agreement reached by most of the recent studies that some underclass kids are able to get high academic achievement since their cultural capitals have been made up in some ways. Based on an analysis of forty-six diaries of first-year students in a top university，the current study draws the following conclusion that the underclass students have unique cultural capitals，including inherent impetus， moralized thinking and a nature of mind that is corresponding to schooling. Therefore， because these underclass students make a good use of these unique cultural capitals，they become high-achievers.
