美国私立高等教育有营利性和非营利性之别。私立大学由校外人士组成的董事会来管理，不受政府的干预。办学自主权、充足的办学经费和悠久的传统构成了美国私立大学的特点。在竞争激烈的今天，收费较高的私立大学之所以能够存在，就在于它能够提供更多、更好和更多样化的教育服务、学术服务和社会服务。

There are two kinds of private-‘run higher education， i.e. profits seeking one andnon-profit seeking one. The private-run university is run by the board of trustees， whichconsists of the people out of the university. It is not interfered by the government. Thesufficient funds and long tradition consists of the feature of U.S. Private-run universities.In the present days when the competition is serious， that the private-run universitieswhich collect higher fees can exist lies in that they can provide still more， better andvarious education service， academic service and social service.
