Exploring the Relationship Between Principals’ Transformational Leadership and Teachers’ Organizational Commitment: A Multilevel Meta-Analysis
The major purposes of this study were to clarify existing knowledge of the relationship between principals’ transformational leadership and teachers’ organizational commitment and to provide information concerning leadership factors that would be helpful to educational administrators. The multilevel meta-analysis was utilized to synthesize the results of related studies conducted in Taiwan. Data were collected from 17 independent studies from 1995 to 2010. The major findings of this study included that the positive relationship between overall principals’ transformational leadership and overall teachers’ organizational commitment did exist with the high effect size. Furthermore, the number of the valid sample size was found as a significant positive moderator in the relationship between overall principals’ transformational leadership and overall teachers’ organizational commitment. Also, the positive relationships between each individual factors of principals’ transformational leadership and individual factors of teachers’ organizational commitment were found with medium or large effect sizes.
