Parent-Child Relationships and Ethnic Identity of Foreign Spouses’ Children in Junior High Schools

隨著近年來許多東南亞外籍配偶婚嫁來臺，新臺灣之子之相關議題逐漸受到大眾關注。過往文獻指出，雙族裔子女的族群認同受親子關係的影響。故本研究旨在探討外籍配偶國中子女的背景變項與親子關係對族群認同之解釋力。本研究採問卷調查法，以臺灣北部地區東南亞外籍配偶的國中子女為研究對象，以立意取樣法共得有效樣本276份。研究工具包括「背景資料調查表」、「親子關係量表」與「族群認同量表」。研究結果發現，外籍配偶子女與母親的親子關係較父子關係好，族群認同屬中上程度。外籍配偶國越常與子女提及母國之風俗民情以及母子關係越好，子女的族群認同越好。最後，針對外籍配偶家庭以及學校輔導單位提出具體建議。

Recently, many Taiwanese men married with women from Southeast Asia; thus, the issues of bi-racial children are being focused by the public. It is important to understand the interaction between bi-racial children and their parents, and ethnic identity of these adolescents since they have to face different ethnic culture background. Previous research showed that bi-racial adolescents’ ethnic identity is influenced by parent-child relationships. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to understand bi-racial adolescents’ parent-child relationships and ethnic identity, to analyze the difference of background factors on ethnic identity, to examine the correlation between parent-child relationships and ethnic identity, and to explore the predictors of ethnic identity for transnational marriage children of junior high schools whose mother was from Southeast Asia. In view of methodology, survey method was used, and the target population was bi-racial junior high school students from intact families and whose mothers coming from South- East Asia in northern Taiwan. By purposive sampling, 276 valid samples were obtained. Instruments included background questionnaire, parent-child relationships scale, and ethnic identity scale. Results showed that for these bi-racial children whose mother from South-East Asia, their mother-child relationship is better than father-child relationship, and their ethnic identity is above average level. If foreign spouses mention more above the traditional heritage and folk customs of her country of origin, and have good mother-child relationship, their children will have better ethnic identity. Finally, based on findings of this study, recommendations are provided for foreign spouses’ family and school counselors.
