“允公允能，日新月异”：严修、张伯苓与南开中学

肇建于严氏家塾的南开中学是南开教育发軔的基础。其创立者严修是清末民初在教育领域最有影响的维新派人物之一。他秉承一切从实处去做的理念，创办了南开学校，并与张伯苓一起，逐步使南开中学变成了全国最好的中学之一。在此基础上，张伯苓又提出建立由小学到大学的南开教育体系，以保证南开精神能够贯彻如一。张伯苓在三育并举训练方针的基础上，提炼出“允公允能，日新月异”的南开校训，并以“公能”训练完成其塑造南开精神，育才救国的教育理想。

Nankai High School， which was founded on the home school of Yan family， is the origin of Nankai education system. Yanx-iu， the founder， was one of the most influential reformists in education area in 1920s. With his belief that Be Pragmatic on Everything Yan founded， Nankai High School. Then together with Zhang Boling he developed Nankai into one of the best middle schools nationwide. Based on the success Zhang Boling proposed to build the Nankai education system which would cover a primary school， a middle school and a university so as to ensure the Nankai spirit could be carried out in the whole education period. Again Zhang disdilled the Nankai motto as Dedication to Public Interests， Acquisition of All - round Capability， and Aspiration for Progress with Each Day， which was based on his principle that equal importance should be attached to moral， intellectual and physical education. Through the school training focusing on Dedication to Public Interests， Acquisition of All - round Capability Zhang's education ideal to shape Nankai spirit and to educate capable people to save the country was fulfilled at last.
